The first year of carnivorous and omnivorous baby turtles.

Nothing is too good for baby and that’s why we use nothing but the best, premium quality ingredients in our Baby Turtle Food to provide balanced nutrition and all the vitamins and minerals they need for optimum health and a great start in life.

Fish Fuel Co. Baby Turtle Food is very finely chopped, making it easy for small turtles to feed and digest. Premium ingredients are specially selected to provide turtles with the types of protein they would normally feed on in their natural environment. In the wild, turtles will feed on molluscs, insects, small fish and crustaceans etc, and also graze on some plant material.

Our Baby Turtle Food is also fortified with leading animal nutrition company Wombaroo’s customised multi vitamins and minerals formula, including essential fatty acids omega 3, 6 and 9 as well as Vitamin D3 and calcium, essential for strong and healthy shell development.

Feed very young turtles twice a day, as much as they can eat in 5-10 minutes.

Turtles will only eat when they are in water. So to feed very small turtles, take them out of their aquarium and feed them in a plastic container like an empty 2 litre ice cream container. Place some water from the aquarium into the container – for very small turtles between 2 and 3cm of water will be fine.

Drop a frozen cube into the container and let it thaw for a minute or two. Then place the baby turtle in the container near the food. (It may take a day or two for your baby turtle to learn that this is feeding time and eat the food.) After 5 to 10 minutes, return your turtle to the aquarium, discarding the container water and any left-over food.

Feeding your baby turtle like this helps keep your aquarium clean. But as your turtle grows bigger, it will be better to be fed in its aquarium. Click here for information on how to feed bigger turtles.

Feeding once a day is usually sufficient for a mature turtle.

These feeding instructions should be used as a guide only, as there are many variables to take into consideration when feeding your turtle, such as the water temperature, the size of the turtle and whether your turtle is still growing. Care must be taken to not over-feed or under-feed your turtle as both can cause problems.

If you feed your turtle a frozen cube, 5-10 minutes of feeding time should be enough time for your turtle to eat enough food to sustain it until the next feeding time. If you first thaw the cube in a glass of cold water and then give to your turtle, then allow just a minute or two of feeding.

Thawing the cube in a glass of cold water for 5 minutes will make it easier for smaller juvenile turtles to feed. Never thaw in hot water or the microwave as this will break down essential nutrients in the food. Always remove any uneaten food.
